Lexumen is a daily 7×7 crossword for iPhone, iPad and Android, built to teach vocabulary rather than test trivia. Clues come from Open English WordNet, so there is no celebrity or magazine knowledge to catch you out.
Tap a square to select it, and tap the selected square again to switch between Across and Down. Type with the on-screen keyboard; Lexumen advances through the answer for you. The clue and answer length are always shown beneath the grid, and the arrows move through the puzzle.
Each day offers the same grid at three answer levels — Gentle, Balanced and Challenge. You can change the answer level and the clue level independently in Settings.
You bank a hint for every answer you solve unaided, up to three at a time. Spend them to check your answers, reveal a letter, or reveal a whole answer. Making the current clue easier is always free and never costs a hint. If you run out, you can watch a short ad for another, or buy the permanent unlock for unlimited hints.
Answers you reveal do not earn hints, and an answer only pays once.
The one-time unlock removes ads, opens the full puzzle archive, gives unlimited hints, and keeps every word in your vocabulary journal. It is a permanent purchase, not a subscription. If you reinstall the app or move to a new device, use Restore purchases in Settings.
Definitions come from Open English WordNet, licensed under CC BY 4.0 and derived from Princeton WordNet. Definitions are shortened and reformatted to work as clues. Full credits are in the app under Settings → Credits and licences.
